Bidwells History

Bidwells Garage has a long history in Ashdon. We have been selling petrol since 1958. The car repair service started in 1971 when Eric Bidwell came to take over from his parents after working at Cleales in Saffron Walden. His wife Joy ran a shop alongside the garage and many locals remember coming in to choose their sweets there.

The last drop of petrol sold was on Wednesday 31st october 2007 at 4.30 to Mr Ron Moore from Castle Camps who had been using the garage for 36 years. One of our older petrol pumps can now be seen at Ashdon Museum. Below some photographs from the last days of the pumps and the eventual removal of the petrol storage tank.

However we are still trading live and well! We specialise in Ford Ka's and Fiestas and offer a good range of small family cars, plus we can carry out a full service, get cars MOT'd for you and are always ready with friendly advice. Come and see us!
